From Bitter to Better: Your Path to Progress

Hey friends,

Bitter or Better?

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. -Genesis 50:20 NIV

Heidi felt a great calling on her life to help women experiencing domestic violence find hope and encouragement. She wanted to write the story of her own domestic violence experiences. As a start to her writing journey, Heidi's writing coach asked her to write a synopsis of her book's message and theme. Although Heidi wanted to convey a message of hope, the words she wrote were full of bitterness toward her abuser. Heidi's coach suggested Heidi pray and ask for healing before she started her book.

In the Bible, we read about Joseph, who experienced great wrongs leveled against him. His brothers threw him into a pit and then sold him into slavery. He was falsely accused of a crime and unjustly imprisoned. However, when Joseph was delivered and in a position where he could help others, his focus was not on the harm they'd done to him but on the good he could do.

Are you bitter, or are you better?
Writing about what you have been through can help to save many lives. However, before you share your story, ask God to heal your heart. You want to make sure that you are not bitter but better.
